A creative institute that specializes in the entertainment side. We train veterans and young people in film, television, music, visual art, and the business of entertainment, taught by working professionals on real productions. Then we go one step further and help them find work.
Our mission is to change the direction of a life. For a young person, that means a skill and a future they were never told was theirs. For a veteran, it means sustainable work with purpose after service. We do it through careers in entertainment and the arts, one person and one community at a time.
Most programs teach and then wish you luck. We train people on working sets and in working studios, taught by professionals who do this for a living. When training ends, we help place graduates on SteelHorn Foundation productions and with partner studios, labels, agencies, and crews across the country and overseas. The measure of a program is how many people are working when it is over.
Every veteran deserves a second mission. Every kid deserves a first shot. The Institute gives both the same thing: a craft, a credit, and a paycheck.
Service members and veterans already have the discipline, leadership, and technical aptitude a working set runs on. The Veterans Program gives that experience a new place to go: a track, a mentor who works in the industry, real credits on real productions, and placement when it ends.
The entertainment industry has never had a door for young people in most communities. The Youth Program builds one: the same tracks and the same instructors as the Veterans Program, with the Youth Short Film Challenge and the Swan Lake Film Festival as the stage where the work gets seen.
Each track is taught by a professional who does it for a living. Participants finish with credits, a portfolio, and people in the industry who know their name.
Structure, character, dialogue, and the draft-to-shooting-script process. Writers leave with produced pages.
Budgets, schedules, crews, locations, and the paperwork that gets a film made. The track that runs the set.
Blocking, performance, coverage, and leading a crew. Taught on real shoots with real actors.
Camera, lenses, lighting, and movement. Taught by a working DP on working sets.
Editorial, color, and finishing in professional suites. The final ten percent of every film.
Production sound, dialogue, Foley, and the mix. The department every set depends on.
Grip, electric, art department, and set procedure. The trades that keep a production moving.
Songwriting, performance, recording, and production, in a professional recording studio.
Illustration, photography, design, and the digital art that entertainment runs on, from posters to production design.
Agent and manager training: contracts, submissions, casting, and building a career for someone else.
Choose a track. Train under a working professional. Every program is free to the participant.
Training happens on real productions and in real studios, not in a classroom. Participants earn credits while they learn, alongside the crews that will hire them.
When training ends, we help place graduates on Foundation productions and with partner studios and crews across the country and overseas. The program ends in a job, not a certificate.
The Institute is the training arm of SteelForge Studios, a sustainable production campus built from recycled steel, powered by solar, with closed-loop water reclamation. The Institute trains inside it and the Studios hire from it. That is what sets us apart: we control the whole path, from the first class to the first paycheck.
The first Institute suites now in design. Professional rooms, professional workflows, so what a participant learns here is what the industry uses.
A treated edit bay for editorial, color, and sound design, running the same workflows as a working post house.
An isolated vocal booth and full mixing station for the Music track, voice-over, podcasting, and audio post.
A head-to-head short film competition where the next generation takes the lead, in front of and behind the camera. Every cast member, every crew role, every voice on screen: youth-driven from start to finish. Open to any filmmaker who builds a youth-led team.
Entries screen at the Swan Lake Film Festival and the audience decides the winner. The crowd, not a jury, picks who takes it home.
Submission window, entry fee, and festival dates for the 2027 Challenge will be announced here. Sign up for the festival newsletter to be first to know.
Studios, venues, and sponsors who put participants on real sets and real stages. Businesses, schools, and industry professionals who want to teach a track or host a crew are welcome.
Whether you are a veteran, a student, a parent, someone who knows a person who belongs here, a working professional who wants to teach, or a sponsor who wants to fund a kit, there is a place for you.
Veterans and youth: tell us who you are and which track interests you. We will reply with next steps and the next intake date.
Apply NowA veteran, a student, a nephew, a coworker’s kid. Tell us who they are and which track fits, and we will reach out to them directly.
